Air Liquide is set to build, own, and operate a new industrial gas production facility in Idaho, dedicated to supplying Micron Technology as well as for other customers in the area with large volumes of nitrogen and other critical gases, including helium, for semiconductor manufacturing. The new facility, costing US$250mm, has an advanced design which will enable production of the full range of critical gases required on site with reduced energy and logistics requirements. Onsite production will also avoid transportation by trucks. The facility is expected to be operational by end-2025 featuring energy-efficient technologies and plans for renewable energy use. There is a big push for semiconductor manufacturing in the US, with the government already incentivising companies such as TSMC and Samsung to build facilities. Companies like Air Liquide, which supply critical elements like helium, are essential for maintaining a smooth supply chain.
