The US seems to be reporting unusually low prices for its helium imports when compared to the rest of the world. Global helium import prices have been averaging ~US$350/mcf since 2020 whilst the US has constantly been <US$200/mcf. Even after the recent corrections to the export data, the import data remains unchanged. This could partially be due to a transfer pricing impact as industrial gas companies manage the pricing for tax purposes. We are tracking this closely to understand if this could also be the effect of older low priced long term contracts still in effect.
