At the World Hydrogen Summit in Rotterdam, industry leaders expressed scepticism about the immediate viability of natural hydrogen as a resource, citing insufficient data on its occurrence, predictability, and purity. Kajsa Ryttberg-Wallgren from H2 Green Steel highlighted the need for a reliable hydrogen source for its projects, while bp's Felipe Arbelaez and Respol’s Maribel Rodríguez Olmo pointed out the challenges in estimating the volume and purity necessary for cost-effective use. SLB also noted the technical difficulties in both natural extraction and artificial production methods, emphasising the reactive nature of hydrogen and the complexities in capturing and maintaining it.
