Atmospheric pressure plasma jets (APPJs), which commonly use helium gas, are effective tools for treating surfaces in various applications, from medical treatments to materials processing. Helium assists in creating low-temperature plasma that safely treats diverse, three-dimensional surfaces such as skin, enhancing the plasma's effectiveness in targeting non-planar areas like pores and wrinkles. The study found that the characteristics of the surfaces, like curvature and texture, significantly influence how plasma, driven by helium, spreads and interacts, with faster propagation along curved surfaces and a tendency to concentrate in valleys and around hemispherical shapes. This focused action makes helium-based APPJs particularly useful for precise and effective surface treatments.
