ExxonMobil Harnesses He Balloon for Monitoring Methane Emissions

ExxonMobil is employing innovative technology in the Permian Basin to monitor methane emissions, aiming for industry-leading net-zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions from its unconventional assets by the end of the decade. Utilising a massive balloon, which seems to be propelled by helium, measures 42 feet high and 70 feet wide (we estimate it would require 100-200mcf of helium) and is equipped with advanced imaging technology and data processing platforms. The company aims to achieve continuous, near real-time detection of methane emissions over a vast area.
