Researchers have made a significant advancement in cooling quantum circuits using liquid helium. By immersing the circuits in liquid helium-3, the team achieved temperatures nearly 100 times lower than previous records, within a few thousandths of a degree above absolute zero. This breakthrough technology not only improved the circuit's coherence but also reduced noise and energy losses caused by material defects. The exceptional thermal properties of helium were observed to enhance heat dissipation from atomic-scale defects in the circuit, providing valuable insights for scaling up practical quantum computers and revolutionising their performance.
