Brazilian Helium Imports Grew 21% y/y in 2023; Pricing up 45%

Updated: Jan 8

Brazilian helium imports were on a downtrend since 2015 falling from 98mmcf to 50mmcf in 2022 (approximately -10% every year). But in 2023, Brazil grew its helium imports to an annual total of 60mmcf (+21%). Brazil is still dependent on the US for its helium although, there were a few volumes from Algeria in 2023, after a quiet 2022, but they constitute <5% of total imports. In 2022, imports were supressed possibly due to the US BLM downtime. Prices, on the other hand, have risen significantly to ~US$530/mcf (+45% y/y).
