US Exports Data Quality Remains Poor Even After Corrections

Since AKAP began the coverage of US helium trade-flow data, we have noted that there are significant data quality issues in the customs reporting. We have consistently seen inflated figures for helium exports from the US. In 2023, we helped the customs correct the erroneous data for a period from 2020 to 2023; however, new numbers from 2024 again highlight the persistence of poor data quality in US-reported exports.
