We have analysed the US Defence Logistics Agency's bulk helium pricing, which is mainly used for aerospace operations. As of Oct '23, it reached a record level of US$1,080/mcf. Although this is just a 4% y/y increase from 2022, it is ~120% up from 2021 levels. This is further evidence of the stress in the helium market and its importance in US national security. This steep pricing is seen after the US Geological Survey removed helium from the US Critical Mineral List stating that that the US was not severely affected by short-supply of helium.
