US BLM's 30-Year Helium Royalty Oversight Failure

A US Interior Department investigation found the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) failed to collect an estimated US$851k in unpaid helium royalties from five companies over a decade (2014–2024), alongside US$48k in unenforced penalties, due to operating for over 30 years without formal procedures to identify, track, or collect royalties from helium-producing wells on federal lands.
