While exploration companies like Gold Hydrogen and Pulsar Helium make headlines with high helium concentrations in their gas streams, steady production from lower concentration wells quietly progresses in the Saskatchewan–Montana Helium Fairway, which spans the Canadian-American border. Despite the lower concentrations, typically under 1%, this region benefits from large, easily producible volumes and a relatively low carbon footprint due to the helium being associated mainly with nitrogen and minimal hydrocarbons. Companies like North American Helium, Helix Exploration, Avanti Helium, and First Helium are efficiently tapping into these reservoirs in some cases using horizontal drilling techniques, with most of the helium being sold directly to global distributors and private companies through offtake agreements, ensuring a steady supply for industries like space and technology.
