A recent S&P Global article highlighted the number of rising space launches in the last year with SpaceX planning to more than double annual Falcon 9 launches from 50 to 120 out of Florida in 2025 and projections suggesting over 500 launches annually within 30 years. Each launch consumes significant volumes of helium, used for pressurising rocket fuel tanks and purging systems. During 2024, space launches surged 20% y/y and as the global space industry expands, the cumulative helium demand from launch operations is set to grow substantially, adding pressure to already tight helium supply chains.
