In Jan'23, average helium pricing hit US$440/mcf (+27% y/y), a new all time record high average pricing level. Volumes have remained in the same average range of around 40-45mmcf, so the increase in price indicates the supply stress in the market. The majority of volumes are coming from Qatar, which is demonstrating its ability to raise prices (US$418/mcf in Jan '23). Close to 25% of volumes came from the US, which has seen volatile import levels but prices have been constantly increasing through 2022 and were >$500/mcf in January. No imports have been seen from Australia for almost a year, given the reduced volumes as that facility winds down.
