Scientists in South Korea have reported a significant development in superconductivity with their creation of LK-99, a potential room-temperature superconductor. By substituting some lead with copper ions, they can achieve superconductivity at ambient pressure, eliminating the need for extreme cooling and pressure chambers that would use helium. If confirmed, LK-99 could create huge cost savings by eliminating helium from the supply chain.
