SoftBank will begin trial runs of its High Altitude Platform Station (HAPS) in 2026, using helium-filled airships to deliver mobile network coverage from 20 km above ground. Each 65 m-long airship, manufactured by Sceye, can serve a 200 km area, making the system valuable for disaster response and connecting remote locations.
