Scotland is moving to a national ban on helium balloons and sky lanterns as North Lanarkshire becomes the 24th council to prohibit their release on council lands and licensed events, citing environmental and animal safety concerns. With three-quarters of Scottish councils now enforcing similar bans, momentum is growing for comprehensive legislation. Helium balloons currently account for 10-20% of the market.
