US-based semiconductor manufacturer onsemi revealed plans to establish a US$2bn silicon carbide (SiC) manufacturing facility in the Czech Republic, aimed at enhancing the production of intelligent power semiconductors for electric vehicles, renewable energy, and AI data centres. The production of SiC semiconductors requires several industrial gases, including helium, which is critical for manufacturing processes. The facility will not only solidify the Czech Republic as a key player in semiconductor manufacturing but also contribute to growing the helium demand in the region.
