Scientists at The Ohio State University have developed a deep learning model to identify surface expressions of subsurface reservoirs of natural hydrogen. Using the algorithm and global satellite imagery, the researchers located semicircular depressions (SCDs) associated with hydrogen deposits, revealing their presence in the US, Mali, Namibia, Brazil, France, and Russia. The AI-driven approach offers a unique ability to map potential hydrogen reservoirs globally, providing a baseline for further investigation. Up till now, only Getech held the technology to identify sub-surface natural hydrogen via its AI technology, but with the growing interest in the sector, it was inevitable that more players would catch-up.
