Indian startup Space Aura aims to offer stratospheric balloon tourism, taking passengers to the "edge of space" in a gigantic helium-filled balloon tethered to a space capsule. The company plans to lift off within the next three years, with tickets already sold for ~US$60,000 each. The capsule, accommodating six tourists and a pilot, will be pressurised during the descent, the parachute will open up and the balloon will detach. Space Aura is working on finalising the design and material of the balloon and capsule, with the first test flight targeted for late 2024. For now, Space Aura plans to use helium for the balloon, although they haven’t entirely ruled out hydrogen. Other companies in the field are US’ Space Perspective and World View Enterprises, Spain’s SpaceHALO and Zero2Infinity, and Japan’s Iwaya Giken.
