Keyes Helium Company (KHC), a small helium refining company, has expressed its concern with the BLM's operations of the Federal Helium System and its effect on the global price of helium. KHC mentioned the possible risks associated with reduced helium supply to the US with respect to an increasing risk of supply disruption, a risk that could increase the nation's import reliance, and jeopardize manufacturing or use of products vital to the defence, healthcare, and aerospace industries. KHC also expressed its concern with the potential sale of the Federal Helium System, and suggested that congressional oversight is needed in order to ensure safety management of the system, that all helium owned by private Storage Holders is delivered to them in a reasonable time frame, and that the BLM pipeline must become a regulated pipeline under the jurisdiction of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
