In October, there was a 30% increase in Japanese helium import pricing to US$505/mcf. The main contributor was Qatari pricing that spiked to an all-time high of US$540/mcf, compared to the monthly average (in the last two years) of ~US$360/mcf. This increase comes with stable volumes from Qatar (13mmcf/month), which implies an underlying increase in prices. It was also notable that volumes coming from the US fell to record low levels. As we have seen throughout the last year, helium prices have skyrocketed due to the shortage, and with external geopolitical factors at play, this is not a surprise.
