A research team at the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS), led by Professor Jasmin Raymond and Adjunct Professor Stephan Séjourné, published six reports examining the viability of natural hydrogen in Quebec, funded by the Ministère de l’Économie, de l’Innovation et de l’Énergie. These studies aim to provide a scientific basis for determining if Quebec can harness natural hydrogen, found in the Earth’s crust, as a clean energy source to aid the province's energy transition. Initial findings suggest the presence of hydrogen-producing rocks in both southern Quebec's sedimentary basins and the northern Canadian Shield, encouraging further scientific exploration to assess the potential of natural hydrogen.
