The French Institute for Petroleum and New Energies (IFPEN) is leading national and international initiatives on natural hydrogen. Recently tasked by France's Directorate General for Energy and Climate (DGEC) with coordinating a synthesis study to assess natural hydrogen potential and production methods within France, IFPEN collaborates with local academic experts. Additionally, IFPEN is guiding the "Natural Hydrogen Task" under the IEA's Technology Collaboration Programme Hydrogen, engaging 31 experts from 16 countries to enhance global understanding and development of natural hydrogen across various dimensions. French companies FDE and 45-8 are a couple of pioneering natural hydrogen exploration companies.
