Seagate Technology LLC (Seagate) is a world leader in data storage solutions that manufactures hard disk drives (HDDs). HDDs are the backbone of the digital economy and internet storage that millions of people access every day. Seagate uses helium at its fabrication facility in Minnesota where they manufacture recording heads. Helium is used several ways in the manufacturing process for recording heads, including for the cooling process, as a carrier gas for deposition processes, and as a leak detector. In addition, Seagate uses helium in several manufacturing facilities around the world to produce the millions of drives whose internal atmosphere is helium. Moreover, it is likely that sometime in the near future, all drives will be helium drives.
