Ongoing attacks by Houthi rebels in Yemen on cargo vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden have prompted major shipping companies, including Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd, to reroute vessels around the Cape of Good Hope, bypassing the Red Sea and Suez Canal. QatarEnergy and Shell have also adjusted their routes, impacting helium shipments from Qatar to Europe. Although helium production in Qatar remains unaffected for now, longer transit times and potential regional conflicts pose challenges to helium supply chains, potentially leading to delays and increased transportation costs for helium customers.
