Despite helium’s critical role in semiconductor fabrication, active recycling remains limited due to operational complexity, high capital risk, and legacy infrastructure. In a live podcast recorded at gasworld's Specialty Gases Summit, it was discussed that fabs prioritise yield and reliability over sustainability initiatives like gas recycling. While helium shortages strongly incentivise conservation, periods of ample supply weaken this drive.
