ExxonMobil, operator of the LaBarge plant in Wyoming, underwent scheduled plant maintenance starting in Jul'23. Based on the data we have analysed, the downtime lasted for a month during which there was no helium produced, impacting production by ~125mmcf. In H1’23 production was already down 4% y/y or 35mmcf. The LaBarge facility is the largest helium producer in the US accounting for >50% of national production. The cumulative loss of ~160mmcf is ~8% of total US production which will have further tightened the already stressed helium market.
