A recent Scientific Reports paper compiling global data from seeps, springs, mines and the limited well information concludes that most natural hydrogen flow rates are around 9.6mcf/d – 0.97mmcf/d, while a commercially viable project would likely need 0.97mmcf/d – 9.7mmcf/d along with high hydrogen concentrations sustained for 20-30 years, so it argues that self‑replenishing systems are unlikely to be economic.
