China has introduced the world’s first meltdown-proof nuclear power plant, developed by Tsinghua University researchers, using a "pebble-bed reactor" design. This plant, cooled by helium gas and utilising heat-resistant graphite spheres filled with uranium particles, can withstand temperatures up to 950°C and prevent meltdowns by naturally dissipating heat and slowing down nuclear reactions if it overheats. We continue to see potential for significant helium demand growth from newer design nuclear fission reactors.
