China Develops Helium-Powered Thermoacoustic Refrigerator

A team of researchers led by the Chinese Academy of Sciences has developed a heat-driven thermoacoustic refrigerator/heat pump (HDTAR/HDTAHP) designed for high heating-temperature operation. The system utilises helium or nitrogen as a working medium and is described as a promising technology for low-carbon, high-efficiency, and reliable cooling and heating. The proposed system may offer three times higher efficiency at heating temperatures around 500°C, making it a potential solution for low-cost, high-performance refrigeration and heat pumping.
