The Bourakebougou natural hydrogen field in Mali offers a promising solution for cheap and green hydrogen production. Successful exploitation of one well has generated electricity for the local village, and 24 other exploratory boreholes have confirmed the presence of natural H2 in the area. The study presents coring, logging, and geochemistry analyses, revealing that the main reservoir is dolomitic carbonate with high H2 content, primarily accumulated in karst voids. The study provides valuable insights into the geological characteristics of exploitable H2 reservoirs, helping identify similar sites globally for future hydrogen production and its sustainability.
