Stillwater Critical Minerals Corp, a mineral exploration company with operation in Montana, USA, partnered with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, supported by a US$2mm grant from the US Department of Energy's ARPA-E programme, to explore natural hydrogen production at its Stillwater West project in Montana. The research, led by Dr. Mengsu Hu, focuses on developing safe and economically viable technologies for extracting hydrogen from ultramafic rocks rich in olivine through serpentinisation reactions. This collaboration aims to advance the understanding and potential commercialisation of natural hydrogen as a clean energy source, while also leveraging Stillwater's significant nickel and critical mineral resources.
