Clusters of "fairy circles" in the North Perth Basin of Western Australia are emitting hydrogen gas from their perimeters, marking a natural source of clean energy. These formations, found on multiple continents, have drawn attention in the search for sustainable energy alternatives. Scientists discovered natural hydrogen seeps in Australia's fairy circles, linking them to the region's geology. Hydrogen can be produced naturally through various subsurface processes, and the North Perth Basin's conditions favour hydrogen production. The presence of hydrogen in such formations offers potential for exploring natural hydrogen sources as an eco-friendly energy option. There are only a handful of companies in Australia pursuing natural hydrogen exploration as of now: Gold Hydrogen, H2EX, and Mosman Oil and Gas to name a few.
