Industry experts highlight the unexplored potential of natural hydrogen in India, suggesting that government support and targeted research could uncover significant deposits. Until now, India is has only focused on green hydrogen but the issue of high levelised cost of hydrogen still persists. Natural hydrogen could offer a more cost-effective and lower carbon alternative to green hydrogen, with the actual environmental impact depending on several factors, including extraction methods and gas composition. Advanced detection technologies, capable of identifying hydrogen at depths of up to 3,000m, are pivotal in these exploratory efforts, indicating a promising yet untapped resource for India's energy future.
