The French space agency CNES has extended its contract with aerospace and defence company HEMERIA for the production of 50 open stratospheric balloons and 40 pressurised stratospheric balloons over a four-year period. These balloons will be propelled by helium and are vital for the Strateole-2 project, a French-led initiative involving global researchers that aims to study atmospheric events above the equator. The balloons, capable of extended flights at altitudes of 18 to 20km, play a crucial role in understanding climate and environmental changes.
