We have recently added Russia helium export estimates to our Helium Market Data website. Russian exports were subdued over the past three years, initially due to the slowdown from the COVID-19 pandemic, followed by operational issues at gas plants, and finally, geopolitical tensions with Ukraine, which led to sanctions from the West. During this period, exports were dispatched in small quantities to neighbouring countries dependent on Russian helium from Russia's legacy Orenburg facility. However, by H2'23, Russia began exporting helium from its new Amur facility. Although there is no direct reported export data from Russia, media sources, data from importers and our estimates place Russian exports between 85-100mmcf in 2023. We have estimated Russian volumes based on import data from its most prominent trading partners.
