A couple from New Brunswick, Canada has planned to navigate from Canada to Europe using a basket balloon. Unlike most other hot air balloons, the Rozière balloon design incorporates a gas cell filled with helium at the top of the balloon, providing the lift. To maintain a level flight, the volume of the gas cell needs to remain constant. At night, a small double burner attached to the basket is used to warm the air in a fabric cone, which in turn warms the gas cell and maintains its volume. The gas cell is constructed of strong impervious fabric coated with carbon-based liquid on the inside. A stainless-steel chimney valve allows for the venting of helium to adjust the balloon's height.
