Fermilab's technical staff have unveiled the world's first prototype of a superconducting cryomodule, part of the Proton Improvement Plan II (PIP-II) project to upgrade the facility's accelerator complex. This new high-beta 650-megahertz (HB650) cryomodule is longest and largest of its kind, and is responsible for accelerating protons to more than 80% of the speed of light.
