In a Senate meeting on 28th April, US Senator John Barrasso questioned USGS nominee, Dr. David Applegate about the exclusion of helium from the critical mineral list and also if the USGS would reconsider putting helium back on the list. Dr. Applegate mentioned that there were a lot of factors determining the criticality of elements and since the US is a net exporter of helium, the USGS currently feels that helium is not needed on the list.
