PsiQuantum, a US quantum computing company, has opened its first R&D facility outside North America, called PsiDaresbury, at the Science and Technology Facilities Council’s Daresbury Laboratory in the UK. This quantum computing centre aims to develop a fault-tolerant quantum computer with access to expertise in cryogenics, crucial for its single-photon detectors that operate at near absolute zero temperatures. It is one of Europe’s largest liquid-helium cryogenic plants. This is expected to boost helium demand as helium is a key component for operations of quantum computers.
