Marposs, a manufacturer of a wide range of precision equipment, has designed a double chamber machine for prismatic battery cells, using helium as tracer gas. The machine is designed to inspect complete cells before electrolyte filling and sealing. The same type of machine can be used to check finished cells after filling and sealing, in particular using the helium as tracer gas when it has been filled in the cell with the electrolyte that can provide an accuracy of a leak rate of ~10-6 scc/s.
