This letter is in response to the US Geological Survey's request for comments on the helium supply risk in the US. Consistent with NAH Utah’s prior comments, three factors contribute to ongoing and mounting concern regarding the vulnerability of the supply chain for helium in the United States: (1) the growing importance of helium to cutting edge medical, technological, and defense applications; (2) the volatility of international helium markets; and (3) the lack of systematic support for domestic development of new helium resources. NAH Utah encourages the USGS to add helium back to the critical minerals list.
