The Compressed Gas Association (CGA) submitted a response calling on the USGS to work with federal and industry stakeholders to ensure that the nation’s supply of helium is not jeopardized. CGA discussed the importance of helium as an essential commodity, particularly for semiconductor manufacturing, and highlighted the limited global sources of helium, the various safety incidents at the Federal Helium Reserve, and the potential impact of supply chain disruptions on the economy. CGA recommended that helium be included in an amended List of Critical Minerals as soon as possible, and expressed their commitment to serving as a resource and working with all relevant stakeholders to ensure a safe and stable supply of helium for the United States.
