Helium-free MRI Machines pave the way for Sustainable Healthcare

The use of MRI machines requires a significant amount of helium. Philips has developed a “helium-free” MRI machine which only uses 7 litres of helium (~0.2 mcf) and therefore is more sustainable than other machines. By using less helium, healthcare organisations are able to reduce costs. However, the upfront cost of these machines tends to be significantly higher than those that require helium for cooling.
