Melinda Yurkowski is the assistant chief geologist of Saskatchewan. For much of the past decade, her research has focused on helium in the southern portion of the province. In November, she released a paper outlining its prospectivity. Up till now, the main mineral resources have been oil, potash, and uranium, helium was just on the sidelines. But since the U.S. relinquished its position as the top helium producer, countries across the world have jumped at the opportunity to grab a market share.
