Saskatchewan's new helium action plan has been setup with the main objective to capture at least 10% of the global helium market. Earlier, in Canada and across the world, helium was extracted as a secondary product of the hydrocarbon industry but this is now changing to produce "green helium" which involves pure helium extraction. Furthermore, helium extraction sites are generally small and this just leaves a smaller carbon footprint.
