One major driver for helium exploration companies to come to Saskatchewan, other than the purported rich reserves, is the incentive plan provided by the government. The payback period for these exploration companies tends to be ~6 years which does turn out to be a huge risk. The first part of the incentive scheme was to retain the 4.25% royalty stream by the government which was reasonable. Secondly, the incentive plan also promotes junior explorers to quickly enter the area and expand operations. Lastly, it is also enabling current explorers to upgrade facilities to optimise their operations.
