The already stressed helium market which is facing a global shortage has hit a further setback with the explosion at the helium gas plant at Haven, Kansas run by Tenawa. This will likely take a source of crude helium off the market for an extended period. No details have been revealed on the cause or how long it will take to repair the plant and get it back running. The capacity of the plant is around 100mmcf/y of helium production but it is unclear what the utilisation rate was beforehand.
