ExxonMobil is responsible for 25% of global helium production with an average production rate of 130mmcf/m LTM. Exxon produces helium as a by-product of natural gas from its La Barge facility in Wyoming. In July'23, the company has planned a scheduled maintenance for the plant, which will halt the production for around a month. The maintenance was originally planned for 2022 but postponed to 2023. Its last maintenance shutdown in 2019 lasted for around 6 weeks in July and August. In today's stressed market, taking out ~130mmcf helium for a month will likely cause delays in the supply chain of numerous industries/companies, not limited to the US but globally since the US is a net exporter of helium.
