CNBC has caught onto the growing interest in natural hydrogen. With exploration efforts expanding globally, from the US to Australia and France, the number of companies searching for geologic hydrogen deposits has surged from 10 in 2020 to 40 by the end of last year. Sceptics urge a focus on transitioning from grey to green hydrogen, while others, noting potential vast reserves, remain hopeful about natural hydrogen's role in future energy supply, despite current production levels being minimal compared to other renewable sources.
